WW2 GERMAN M1939 SMOKE GRENADE (INERT)

This is a very good example of the rarer M1939 smoke grenade which has the basic configuration of the M1924 stick grenade, but with holes around the base of the head. Early M1939 Smoke grenades ( Nebelhandgranate ) utilised the same handle as the M1924. However this leadto confusion during night combat with the M1924 stick grenade which resulted with the introduction of grooves on the handle and a white-band painted in the centre for night recognition. The head of the grenade retains all of its original finish and stencilling and is dated 1940. The handle is dated 1942 and has the makers code gck for "Gebr.Schupper, Metallwarenfabrik" ( Siegwerk ).
