WW2 BRITISH OFFICER'S 40 PATTERN BATTLE DRESS
This is a army officers 40 pattern battle dress, which has not had the collar tailored. It was common practice for army officers to draw an issue battle dress blouse and have the regimental tailor alter the collar to an open neck. The BD is in very good condition and has the rank pips of a captain with a red backing which was used by the following branches, Infantry, General Staff, Royal Artillery, Military Police, Royal Army Ordnance and Pioneer Corps. This example also retains its contract label, which gives the size No7, the manufacture "Windsor & Black LTD, and the year of manufacture 1942. It is also stamped with the War Department ( WD ) year letter acceptance code "0" for 1942. Which was the year the 40 pattern BD was introduced. Early example have brown plastic buttons where late-war examples have green plastic buttons. The BD also has the outline over the left breast pocket flap of a medal ribbon bar.
