WW2 BRITISH NO.77 INERT GRENADE

The No.77 grenade is a white phosphorus grenade which was introduced in 1943. It has an impact fuse and tin casing and was intended for laying smoke screens and as a signalling device. However the No.77 was also very effective as an anti-personnel and incendiary device. The No.77 was issued to the army and Home guard. When WW2 ended many of the grenades had become extremely dangerous, due to corroding of the outer casing. In 1948 the grenade was determined to be obsolete by the British army and the majority where destroyed to due to the danger the grenades posed to the user. Making the British made No.77 grenades extremely rare. However the No.77 continued to be produced in Canada to the 1950's the quality and manufacturing was much better than the British made examples. This example is dated 1943 with a June 1944 dated pull-cord on the impact fuse. U.K. Sales Only
